Patmos is a small island located in the Aegean sea and is reachable only by ferry. Therefore, getting there takes time and some planning. Our advice : let our wedding be the reason to plan a one week holiday - or even more, especially if you wish to discover some more places in Greece ! 

Reaching Greece : we advise you to use sites such as www.skyscanner.com in order to find the best option for you. You can fly to Athens or other islands such as Kos, Mykonos, Leros or Rhodes. Just make sure you have a connecting ferry to Patmos. For the South Africans, flying through Istanbul is probably a good option.

Ferry: Hop onto a ferry from the harbour of Piraeus (Athens) or other islands. There are many different ferry options depending on the date of travel and the location of departure. Greece being Greece, the summer ferry schedules go public quite late, but do not worry, we will keep you posted ! Here is a website where all ferry schedules are listed: www.openseas.gr

Travelling through Athens : To avoid any stress, it's good to plan about 3 hours between the flight and the ferry. There are two ways to reach the harbour of Piraeus (where you will get the ferry).

• Subway/Railway: There is a direct line from the airport to Piraeus (about an 1 hour long). From the Piraeus subway station, a bus will take you to your ferry. In the subway, keep your bags and luggages close to you because of pickpockets.
• Taxi: You can get a taxi to drive you directly to your ferry (about an hour long drive). Our advice: pre-book a taxi.
• From Athens the ferry usually leaves at 6PM or 11PM and it's a 9 hours crossing. With the normal ticket you will have access to their sitting area, lounge, bar and restaurants but you can also book large and more confortable seats or even cabins if you want beds, which we recommend for a night crossing.

Travelling through Kos: To avoid any stress, it's good to plan about 2 hours between the flight and the ferry as it is a 30 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry. From Kos it will be a 2 to 4 hours crossing depending on the ferry.

• Or take a taxi which is highly recommended to pre-book.
